Cold Weather Shelter annual program
November 1 - March 15
The City of Monroe partners with the Volunteers of America – Western Washington (VOAWW) in the annual Cold Weather Shelter program where overnight shelters are open November 1 through March 15 when winter temperatures are forecasted to be below 34 degrees and adequate staffing is available to support shelter operations. Information about the cold weather shelter is posted daily to the City’s Facebook page (@MonroeWAGov), VOAWW webpage, and Snohomish County Public Safety Hub.

Shelter Rules
Youth under 18 years of age will be sheltered at The Cocoon House (Monroe, WA). Families may be sheltered at nearby hotels.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Intake is required and available from 8 to 9:30 p.m. No guests are allowed after 10 p.m. Shelters close at 8 a.m. the following morning.
Bus passes are distributed from Gold Bar Park & Ride, 429 Croft Ave W, at 6:30 p.m. and from Sultan Library, 319 Main Street, Suite 100, at 6:45 p.m. The passes provide complimentary transportation to the Monroe shelter only.

Daytime warming shelters
Community libraries in Snohomish County, including the Monroe Library located at 1070 Village Way, are open to the public as Daytime Warming Centers during extreme cold weather. Cooling Center Information & Safety Tips
During extreme heat events, the following cooling centers are available. Please contact the facility prior to arriving to confirm their hours of operations.

Safety Tips:
- Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a vehicle under any circumstances.
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. (View Red Cross information)
- Drink plenty of fluids; encourage others to do the same.
- Stay out of the heat or limit your outdoor activities.
- Wear sunscreen if you are outside.
- Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
- Be safe near/in water (pool, river, lake).
